Review: Irish Setter WINGSHOOTER XD Work Boots by Joe Prin
Incredible boots! These came along for me at just the right time. I had a bunch of fall yard and pasture work to do, and the waterproof features of these very comfortable boots were just perfect. I found myself working early in the mornings with a lot of moisture in the grass. Other boots I had were easily soaked and my feet got wet and cold. Not these.
I quickly came to appreciate the soles on these also. They are very slip resistant and sure under foot while not having overly aggressive treads that gathered up clumpy dirt and gravel. The mud that I did get on them cleaned off at the end of my projects easily and again, I did not have to worry about the interiors getting wet. They are light enough that jumping on and off my tractor was not a problem.
Irish Setter was very generous with the boot laces, and this made it easy for me to get a good, solid tie on them. They never loosened up and stayed perfectly tight. Later in the day I found myself walking our dogs and these Wingshooter XDs allowed for a good long walk without any fatigue. I would think these would be good for several continuous miles of not hurting your feet.
They look good and they feel good, a nice combination and since they cleaned up so nicely, I am not afraid to wear these out on errands and to gatherings. I do have a bit of plantar fasciitis in my right foot, so I did remove the stock inserts and installed some Cadence inserts. They fit in the boots well as there was still plenty of toe room and after one particular day of wearing these for over 9 hours, my feet did not hurt at all. Just a side note, but the softer soles on these also make them very quiet to walk in, like on my trip to Costco. No clunking around like other heavy-duty boots generate.
I can recommend these for any professional or homeowner’s work, play, camping, or task work that you can throw at them. They have a great look and deliver nice performance that I am sure will last a very long time. That is something Red Wing products have been well known in the boot world for a very long time. Give these a try, you won’t be disappointed.
